About Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia pain and fatigue is as real as the anxiety and depression that often accommodate it. When I was in my mid 30s I thought I was going crazy, but not as quickly as I felt I was falling apart. It seemed I was a 36 year old woman going on 63. The chronic pain and fatigue seemed to nearly kill me yet no amount of pain reliever or medication would give any type of relief. It was just awful. In desperation, I gave up my 20 year career in retail management and have had to make major adjustments to both my work and personal lifestyle.

Although there's no known cure for fibromyalgia (FMS) or chronic fatigue (CFS) syndrome, the good news is that now that I know what I have and live with is real, I can get by just knowing I'm not crazy, going to die, or lose control; and that there are some things I can do to reduce and get through those days when the flare-ups are really bad. In addition, there is so much more information and medical research being done.

Fibromyalgia is no longer considered to be a psychiatric or hypochondria illness as once was believed when medical tests failed to find any definitive answer or signs that would explain the patients' complaints. However, today it is said to be a real arthritic-type condition and is similar to the Epstein-Barr and Chronic Fatigue syndrome of the 1970s and 80s. Hopefully one day they will find a cure and we all will be free of the awful effects of this chronic condition.
